Architectural Photography

Chances are you wandered in to the world of architectural photography by accident. Maybe you found yourself more interested in plinths and sanctions while on your most recent holiday than sea and sand and took it from there. Maybe you have an interest in cameras and their technology and just wanted and excuse to use one. Whatever your reason, I expect you don't take it too seriously, if anything you do it for fun and to relax.

In reality, architectural photography is one of the most important activities of our time. What marks this current period of humanity out against all the others is the sheer volume of media we create, yet so much of it is completely disposable, there is very little that accurately portrays what life is like right now for the benefit of future generations.

Architectural photography is incredibly important in the archiving of our achievements, as both layman and scientist alike often judge the advancement and abilities of ancient civilisations by their homes and public works. With the technology we have to day, there is nothing to say that although our buildings may crumble in to the ground when we are gone, we will not be able to preserve an accurate record, through architectural photography, of just how much we have achieved.

So next time you are out indulging in some architectural photography, consider for a moment just who in the future may look at your photos, and what stories they could tell.
